This was the view out our window. Actually, only a portion of the view. To the left of the cranes, on that hill, were two more churches. The Angel is pretty new, created and installed as part of the new Republic of Užupis, which lies within the city of Vilnius.
Užupis is a farce and an attitude, and a great place to hang out.
Surrounded on three sides by an oxbow of the Vilnia River, it is another funky rundown section that has been remade into an artistic enclave. (And now that it is “safe,”becoming fancy-pantsy.)
It was our headquarters while in Vilnius, and we loved watching the angel in changing sun and moon light.
